"Strange Fits of Passion" by Anita Shreve:
Everyone believes that Maureen and Harrold English, two successful New York City journalists, have a happy, stable marriage. It's the early '70s and no one discusses or even suspects domestic abuse. But after Maureen suffers another brutal beating, she flees with her infant daughter to a coastal town in Maine. The weeks pass slowly, and just as Maureen settles into her new life and new identity, Harrold reappears, bringing the story to a violent, unforgettable climax. A labyrinth of a tale with an ingenious structure, Strange Fits of Passion is also a powerful portrait of truth and deception. (Summary courtesy of AnitaShreve.com.)

Melissa P:
I love Anita Shreve and she always writes a relatable character. This particular story is about an abused woman who has had enough. I really connected with this book in so many ways and in turn it helped me heal a bit as well. I’ll never forget reading it.

I read The Piolets Wife years ago and remember being completely engulfed in the story. I'm sure it would be the same with this one!

Anita Shreeve's books always look at the 'darker' side of life and always written so beautifully. One book in particular stays in my mind 'Sea Glass'. I've had 'Light on Snow' sitting on my bookshelf for ages, thanks for reminding me!

It's always the marriages you least suspect and the fact that a woman has to run with her children just shocks me --guess that is why this story plot draws me in--just like Pilots wife did years ago it still leaves me wondering about people life and are those we meet really who they appear to be--sounds like a good read:)

This book sounds very intense and discusses a very serious issue. The blurb kinda reminds me of the Jennifer Lopez movie 'Enough'.

Anita Shreve always writes about riveting and complex characters, and this book seems to follow suit. I'm interested to read about this victim of domestic violence.

This is one of Anita Shreves best! I think I've read Strange Fits of Passion three maybe even four times. It is so well written, and captivating. An absolute must read!

I have no tolerance for domestic violence, so this should be interesting!
