Becoming friends with Meredith Schorr...plus a book giveaway!

**Giveaway is now closed**

"Just Friends With Benefits" is the epitome of chick-lit, and the title of a humorous debut novel by Meredith Schorr, released September, 2010. Meredith's love for writing began about seven years ago when she realized she was actually having fun composing work-related emails. She found herself writing funny birthday cards. Amy Bromberg met Meredith several years ago, through Meredith's chick lit meetup group, while she was editing and revising her novel, and submitting to publishers...and look at her now. Meredith lives in New York City, where her 9-5 job is working as a paralegal. Some of her passions include routing for the Yankees, running, and spending time with family and friends.

Meredith is kicking off humor month at Chick Lit Central by telling us some things that make her laugh. She also has one e-book of "Just Friends with Benefits" to give a lucky reader anywhere in the world (and residents of the US and Canada also have the option of a paperback).

You can find Meredith on Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads and her website.

Funniest chick lit novel?
"Watermelon" by Marian Keyes

Funniest book character (chick lit or any kind)?
Becky Bloomwood ("Shopaholic" series - Sophie Kinsella)

Favorite comedy film?
Too many to choose just one, so I'll cheat - "The Hangover," "Parenthood," "Clueless," "Bridget Jone's Diary," "Superbad"

Funniest TV show?
"Seinfeld"

Funniest song?
"Rapper's Delight" - Sugarhill Gang

Funniest quirk you had as a child?
I used to take out my frustrations by biting people. I'm not sure my victims found it as much quirky as diabolical...I grew out of it in about 2nd grade.

Funniest thing you heard a kid say?
I'm not around kids too much so I'll quote myself. When I was about six years old, I stayed at my grandparent's house for the weekend and cried the entire time. My grandma told me she wasn't having me overnight again until I was at least 16. Apparently, I pouted, placed my hands on my hips and declared, "you'll be died by then!" I was appalled when I heard that story but my grandma thought it was hilarious. And thankfully, I was wrong and my grandma was not "died" by the time I was 16.

Funniest thing that happened to you recently?
I was walking along a crowded NYC street. It was a breezy day and after a gust of wind, my dress flew over my head and I mooned much of 34th street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues. I looked around to assess the damage and kept walking as if nothing happened. Accidentally mooning people once? A total fluke - It happens, right? A moment later, I felt another gust of wind, rushed to hold the bottom of my dress down and in doing so, dropped my phone. When I bent down to pick up the phone, guess what happened? Yup, my dress flew over my head again. So, in the span of about 60 seconds, I flashed my panties twice. I was just happy I was wearing them.

Favorite inside joke you have with anyone you know?
My boss and I were in the elevator at our previous law firm. We were eavesdropping on two women in the elevator, not on purpose but if you converse on an elevator, you have to expect others to listen! One woman told the other how she was introduced to someone recently and discovered they had a really good "rappaport" We assumed she meant to say "rapport". I bit my lip and stared at the ground trying to avoid eye contact with my boss. As soon as the women exited the elevator, the two of us looked at each other and burst out laughing. Whenever I tell him about a new friend, he asks if we had a good rappaport. (Perhaps you had to be there but it sure was funny at the time.)

Favorite joke?
My roommate from college told this joke about a grandma. It wasn't the funniest joke ever, but for some reason (probably too much cheap beer), I liked it and made her tell it often over our four years of college. I don't remember it exactly, but I found one online that's a lot like it:

Grandmother and granddaughter were in the bank when three bank robbers walked in and held it up.
"All the ladies down on the floor," one handsome robber commanded.
"My grandmother too?" the little girl asked.
"Yes, your grandmother too!"
"All the ladies on the floor, pull up your dresses."
"My grandmother too?"
"Yes, your grandmother too! All ladies will now remove their panties."
"Surely you don't mean my grandmother too?" asked the little girl.
Becoming angry, the handsome robber shouted, "YES, YOUR GRANDMOTHER TOO! Now, all the ladies on the floor are to spread their legs apart."
When the little girl started to ask if her grandmother was included, her grandmother snarled, "YOU HEARD WHAT THE MAN SAID!"

My roommate's version was funnier, but it still makes me giggle.

Thanks to Meredith for making us laugh and sharing her book with our readers.

I enjoyed your description of the 'breezy skirt' incident also. In fact, I find myself wishing there was a video clip. LOL. All the wind does to me is muss my hair.
I'm a big fan of Seinfeld as well.

I haven't read very many Chick Lit books yet, though I have several on my TBR pile. Of the ones I've already read, I'd say my favorite is Lois Winston's "Assault with a deadly glue gun." However, that might not be OFFICIALLY chick lit. [depends on some definitions, I suppose.] I've also enjoyed two books by Jane Porter and two by LuAnn McLane. I'm in the middle of one by D.D. Scott and just about to start one by Tonya Kappes.

Yes, I'd love to have your book in this drawing. Reach me at salter8jeff[at]yahoo[dot]com.
Thanks. Enjoyed the several 'funnies' today.

They say your "first is your favorite" so my first Kinsella novel was "Undomestic Goddess" after which I read everything else written by her and "Madeline." Love 'em!

Would love to read Meredith's book also! Love the title!
