Allison Ashley is in the room!

We're pleased to welcome Allison Ashley to CLC today! Her latest rom-com, The Roommate Pact, released earlier this month and it sounds like a lot of fun. She's here to talk about it and share some other interesting facts about herself. We hope you will enjoy getting to know Allison!

Allison Ashley is a science geek who enjoys coffee, craft beer, baking, and love stories. When she's not working at her day job as a clinical oncology pharmacist, she pens contemporary romances, usually with a medical twist. She lives in Oklahoma with her family and beloved rescue dog.

ER nurse Claire and her roommate slash firefighter Graham Scott have come up with a not-so-traditional pact: if they are still single by the time they’re forty, they’ll take the plunge and become friends with benefits. To Claire, the agreement is a safe-enough deal, considering she hasn’t had much luck in love and Graham is in NO rush to settle down. And she definitely couldn’t see herself falling for a thrill-seeker like Graham after what happened to her father. Just as things begin to heat up way before the deadline, Graham’s injured in a serious rock-climbing accident—and he needs Nurse Claire’s help. But with this no-strings arrangement turning into Claire moving into his bed to take care of him, keeping “for now” from turning into “forever” isn’t as easy as they’d planned.

“Allison Ashley’s signature wit and charm shine through every page of The Roommate Pact. Graham and Claire’s journey had me laughing, crying, and literally hand-on-heart swooning.”
—Ava Wilder, author of How to Fake It in Hollywood

"The Roommate Pact gave me a literal heartache and this book secures Allison's title of Writer of All the Best Kisses. Anyone who wants to swoon needs to read this book!"
—Falon Ballard, author of Just My Type

The Roommate Pact is a hilarious, steamy, and breezy read that I couldn't put down. The banter is like watching a great Nora Ephron-style romcom unfold, and I absolutely adored Claire and Graham's journey from roommates to lovers.”
—Erin La Rosa, author of For Butter or Worse

What is a favorite compliment you have received on your writing?
The two that I most love hearing are (1) that reading my book pulled someone out of a reading slump or (2) someone stayed up too late to finish one of my books. Forgoing sleep to read something I wrote is the highest praise!

What did you learn from writing your other novels that you applied to The Roommate Pact?
I think I improve on pacing with every novel I write. At least, it seems less common for the editor to tell me a certain scene or part of the book felt slow or didn’t add to the momentum of the story! I prefer reading books that move along with a quick plot, so I keep trying to improve my writing to reflect that.

If The Roommate Pact were made into a movie, who would you cast in the leading roles?
James Marsden for Graham and Brittany Snow for Claire. I pictured those two from the very beginning for these characters!

What is the last book you read that you would recommend?
Is it cheating if I’m still reading it? I’m in the middle of The Art of Scandal by Regina Black and am loving it so far. I also just finished You, with a View by Jessica Joyce and it was delightful.

If your life were a TV series, which celebrity would you want to narrate it?
Zooey Deschanel but as her character Jess from New Girl. I related so hard to her quirks and awkwardness, and I’d love her to narrate my life!

Share your most bizarre roommate experience.
It’s gotta be the diet habits of my college roommate, who was also my best friend. This was a regular occurrence: wake up and drink a Dr. Pepper while making a tube of Pillsbury orange-flavored cinnamon rolls. Eat 1-2 cinnamon rolls for breakfast. Then another couple cinnamon rolls with more Dr. Pepper for lunch, and finish off the rolls for dinner (with more Dr. Pepper). Literally that was all she ate some days. College life, right?

Thanks to Allison for visiting with us!
