I get deliriously excited when I find out Jen is coming out with a new book. And then of course I get all giddy when I see my copy in the mailbox. I had the pleasure of meeting Jen three times, the first two at signings, and then the last at BEA a couple of years ago. She’s just like she is in her memoirs, hysterical, warm-hearted and very personable.
This book has a VERY special place in my heart. When I received it I tweeted a picture of the book and how excited I was that I received it. Jen then replied asking me if I read the acknowledgments. So I did and OMG, when I saw my name I started screaming and running up and down the apartment like a mad woman! What an honor to be included, especially in a paragraph with some awesome authors!
Just like all of Jen’s memoirs, I Regret Nothing has her fantastic wit, humor, and of course her trademark snark. What makes this one stand out though, is how Jen creates and tackles her bucket list. The reader is able to see a serious side of Jen, one who takes life seriously and wants to live it to the fullest. As she tackles her bucket list items, two being losing weight and attempting to learn how to ride an adult size tricycle, we see her putting her mind to something and not giving up. This is very admirable and inspiring. Perhaps it’s time I create my own bucket list.
Jen talks about social media, and how people can be very nasty to one another. She had a specific experience where she shared something on Facebook, and for whatever reason, MANY people misunderstood her message, and started attacking, bullying, and being utterly mean. Unfortunately I can relate to this. I was watching GMA one morning (if you follow me on Twitter, you know I’m a GMA junkie), and Lady Gaga was on wearing a dress made out of paper. I tweeted something about how much paper was wasted to make this dress. Well, let me tell you, people started firing at me such nasty things, I was beside myself. Some of them I can’t even write here. Since then, I think twice (sometimes more) before I say something on Twitter that can be the least bit offensive to someone. But that takes some of the fun and spontaneity out of it, which is a shame.
If you’re a Jen Lancaster fan, of course you have to pick up this book. If you’re not…well it’s about time you become one! It actually makes a great summer read!
