Cat Lavoie plays by the rules and has a book to give away

**Giveaway is now closed**

Today we welcome debut author Cat Lavoie and her novel "Breaking the Rules" (reviewed here). Cat Lavoie was born in the small town of Jonquière in Québec, Canada. At the age of nineteen, she packed up her things (mostly books) and moved to the big city of Montreal where she currently lives with her tempestuous cat Abbie--who is both adorable and quite possibly evil.

An incurable Anglophile since her university days where she studied English Literature, she can often be found daydreaming about her next trip to London. Since she's an expert at the art of procrastination, Cat is easily distracted by cooking and home improvement shows--even though she's not particularly good at either.

Cat grew up watching soap operas and legal dramas and--had she not decided to be a claims analyst by day and write chick lit by night--she would have probably become a designer suit-wearing lawyer. Or a character on All My Children (which is what she really wanted to be when she was twelve).

Visit Cat at her website, Facebook and Twitter pages.

Thanks to Marching Ink, we have one copy of "Breaking the Rules" to give away to some lucky reader anywhere in the US and/or Canada.

Favorite required reading book:
"The Great Gatsby"

Favorite high school memory:

Working at the student radio station

Favorite TV show about school:
Community

Best year of school and why:

Second year of university. The first year was tough because I was away from home for the first time but the second year was when I really discovered my new city (Montreal) and made some really great friends.

Did you ever have to deal with bullies?

Unfortunately, yes. The fact that I was chubby, quiet and wore glasses made me a prime target in high school.

Subject I wish I had focused more on:

Either history or geography. I feel like I should know a lot more than I do right now.

Proudest achievement during my academic career:
When my favorite university professor took me aside and offered me a recommendation letter if I ever wanted to pursue a Masters in Literature. (Which I didn't… but I was very happy to know he thought I should.)

Did you go to a school dance? Which one stands out the most?
Since I was so shy, I stayed far away from dances… but I did go to my high school prom and I (very clumsily) danced along to—what was back then—the hot new song: Macarena!

Special thanks to Cat for sharing her school memories with us and to Marching Ink for sharing "Breaking the Rules" with our readers.

My second year of University was my favorite, too! It was definitely when I settled into myself and my surroundings.

1. Yeah, I think I got in trouble for breaking the dress code rule, haha. They always expected us to wear such long skirts and shorts! It was hard for tall people to find fingertip length skirts!

I was so good I really didn't get into trouble. I only had detention once all through high school and it's been far too many years to remember why.
