Book Review and Giveaway: Local Woman Missing

We are excited to not only feature Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica today, but also to have Jenny from Book Coffee Happy back at CLC to review it, along with Melissa. And thanks to Park Row, we have THREE copies to give away!

In this smart and chilling thriller, master of suspense Mary Kubica takes domestic secrets to a whole new level, showing that some people will stop at nothing to keep the truth buried.

People don't just disappear without a trace…

Shelby Tebow is the first to go missing. Not long after, Meredith Dickey and her six-year-old daughter, Delilah, vanish just blocks away from where Shelby was last seen, striking fear into their once-peaceful community. Are these incidents connected? After an elusive search that yields more questions than answers, the case eventually goes cold.

Now, eleven years later, Delilah shockingly returns. Everyone wants to know what happened to her, but no one is prepared for what they'll find… (Courtesy of Amazon.)

Melissa Amster:

I've been a fan of Mary Kubica ever since I picked up Pretty Baby in 2015. Her books always take me on a wild ride. Local Woman Missing is her best one yet!

I have been calling this one a "heart-pounder," and for a good reason. My heart was literally pounding the entire time. I was so nervous for the characters, especially Meredith. I felt like I was on a wild goose chase to find the answers, with a lot of game changers along the way. Mary's great use of description and dialogue moved the story along at a quick pace. The plot and all the characters were interesting throughout. I especially liked Leo's narration style with how he was talking to Delilah the whole time.

This thriller was very hard to put down and I was worried about what would happen when I had to step away for a bit. I highly recommend adding it to your TBR right away!

Movie casting ideas:
Dr. Feingold: Jason Isaacs
Cassandra: Reagan Pasternak

Hey Everyone!

I’m Jenny from bookcoffeehappy.com where I discuss books, review books, host book giveaways, etc. I am so excited to be back on Chick Lit Central today with a review of an amaaaazing new psychological thriller.

Mary Kubica has DONE. IT. AGAIN.

There is a reason that Mary Kubica is one of my absolute favorite authors.  Few others can master the art of a suspenseful buildup and twists and turns from miles away like she can.

When Melissa reached out asking if I would like for her to share a copy of Mary’s newest book with me, I JUMPED at the chance.  The newest book from one of my most favorite authors in one of my most favorite genres FOUR MONTHS before it’s release?  YES PLEASE.  Thank you so much for sharing, Melissa!

When this beautiful book arrived on my doorstep, it took all of my strength not to immediately rip open that package, drop everything, and read this entire book in one sitting.  I couldn’t WAIT to start reading.

When it was finally time for me to open the cover, I assumed I would read a few pages before bed...aaaaaand 70 pages later, I finally forced myself to go to sleep.  This book GRABBED me from the very first page and I was immediately alllllllll in.  That first chapter from Delilah’s point of view was CRAZY and I literally felt my heart thumping as I was reading.  Truly couldn’t put it down. Omg.

I devoured this entire book over the course of 3 days but could easily have read it in one sitting.  It’s THAT good.

I loved the separate storylines told from different characters and learning how those characters and stories all fit together.  I had NO IDEA how all of these storylines were going to conclude and in true Mary Kubica fashion, each story’s ending completely took me by surprise.  How does she think of these amazing twists?!?  Nothing better than a completely out of the blue twist and that twist at the end of this book quite literally knocked me over.  Whaaaaat?!?

I read Local Woman Missing months ago and I still find myself thinking about this book and these characters.  In my opinion, this is what makes a book WONDERFUL!

Read this story.  Today.

If you haven’t visited my blog, I would love to have you as a reader!  You can also find me (@bookcoffeehappy) on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

A huge thank you to Mary Kubica for delivering yet another AMAZING psychological thriller.  You are the absolute BEST at creating amazing stories, colorful characters, and  intricate twists.  I absolutely adore you and your talent.

Thank you for allowing me to collaborate with you on this book, Melissa!  As always, I loved working with you!

Xo,
Jenny

When we were little, my brother and I would try to hide under the clothing racks at stores. Our parents were not fooled!

When my newborn son was only 5 hours old, the hospital mixed him up and sent him home with another couple. I realized it and got him back 5 hours later.

When I was young a friend and I went off on our for a walk in a very large park in the city. We didn't realize how lengthy and far the walk would be. No one was happy about that.

When my oldest son was in 3rd grade, one day he decided to walk home all bu himself from school! He was supposed to get a ride from a neighbor. So the clock is ticking and I'm worrying and wondering what happened, calling the school, his dad, my neighbor. Really getting scared now. It's been over an hour, still not home. His Dad comes and goes walking around my apartment complex and finally, he finds him. My little independent boy, decided to walk home because it was a nice day, then saw a neighborhood friend of his and decided to go to his house, instead of coming right home! Ugh! I had that angry/happy/relieved feeling that you get as a parent. I was glad he was alright and told him never to do it again!

Does my cat count? He's an indoor cat but escaped out a window and ended up in a neighbour's shed. It was seriously one of the scariest moments of my life. I've been fortunate not to have any humans in my life go missing.

Not missing long, but when my sister and I were about 6/7 we were mesmerized by a store display and didn’t realize our parents had walked away or even left the store. Finally we did and we went into shock, thankfully our parents walked back into the store and saw us.

Because of my chronic fatigue/pain, I often fell asleep on the sofa in the afternoon. My 4 year old decided to go with another parent with their child to the store. She came in to tell me and saw me sleeping and didn't want to wake me so she went without telling me. When I woke up I couldn't find her anywhere. I was stopping cars on the street asking if they had seen her. Finally I saw them walking up the street. That was a major scare for me.

I don't know anyone who has wandered off. My son was the type that would have so, I kept a close watch on him when he was young.

When we were little and shopping with my mom, my little brother wandered off. We found him hiding in one of those circle racks of clothing. He thought it was funny, my mom, not so much.

I grew up across from some apple orchards and my aunt lived about two blocks up the road. One summer day my aunt called the house looking for my cousin. He was probably six years old. Everyone in the neighborhood and they found him in the orchard. He couldn't find his way home.

Years ago I worked with an after-school program, one day, there were two kindergarteners had found some bugs and they decided to wander further away from the program site to find more bugs without telling any adults..We didn't know they were missing until one of the parents came to pick up one of the boys. It was about an hour or so later, when we were about to call the police, one of the group leaders found them!! That was REALLY SCARY!!
Thank you for the giveaway.

Over 40 years ago I was babysitting for my nephews and we took them to a nearby mall. It was Christmastime and I wanted to take them to see Santa. We had the two boys walking between my husband and I but it was so crowded that didn't work too well. In an instant the younger one (he was 4) was gone and searching for him was nearly impossible in the crowd. We were looking for security when I suddenly heard him call my name. A very kind craftswoman who had a booth had seen him wandering by himself and invited him to sit on her stool and wait for us. I can't even explain how grateful I was to that woman.
