Almost Missed You by Jessica Strawser
We have two copies to give away, thanks to St. Martin's Press!

Violet and Finn were “meant to be,” said everyone, always. They ended up together by the hands of fate aligning things just so. Three years into their marriage, they have a wonderful little boy, and as the three of them embark on their first vacation as a family, Violet can’t help thinking that she can’t believe her luck. Life is good.

So no one is more surprised than she when Finn leaves her at the beach―just packs up the hotel room and disappears. And takes their son with him. Violet is suddenly in her own worst nightmare, and faced with the knowledge that the man she’s shared her life with, she never really knew at all.

Caitlin and Finn have been best friends since way back when, but when Finn shows up on Caitlin’s doorstep with the son he’s wanted for kidnapping, demands that she hide them from the authorities, and threatens to reveal a secret that could destroy her own family if she doesn’t, Caitlin faces an impossible choice.

As the suspenseful events unfold through alternating viewpoints of Violet, Finn and Caitlin, Jessica Strawser's Almost Missed You is a page turning story of a mother’s love, a husband’s betrayal, connections that maybe should have been missed, secrets that perhaps shouldn’t have been kept, and spaces between what’s meant to be and what might have been. I miss vacations, being able to go out and have fun. Growing up is definitely not what I expected. Paying bills and surviving has to come before fun. I miss good eye sight and being able to eat what ever I wanted and not worrying about gaining weight. Now I gain weight just looking at food. And most of all, I still miss my girl Nani.

I miss my Husband, who I lost to Kidney Cancer 15 months ago, people say your grief gets easier with time, but if you haven't gone thru it yourself, you don't know what it feels like.

I wasn't going to leave a comment on this today, but this is SO EERIE: When I copy and paste tweets, I always look at the last few digits in the URL as a way of preventing errors. Well, the last four digits of the tweet just now were the building number of my former apartment-- and that's at the heart of what I'd been thinking about; thinking about what I miss.
I miss my old life, or really, just having a life, feeling alive. Everything fell apart, set on fire, and blew away in the wind a few years ago, and I had to move. I just... lost everything; it's mind-blowing to think about how everything has happened in such a crazy way. Career, education, money, home, health, social support, love; hope, maybe?
So that's a big one, and I'm so sorry to post something so depressing. But yeah, those numbers came up.

Something that I really miss is my parents. We were always very close and now they are both gone and it’s very lonely without them. I could tell them anything.
