Mia March's movie club and book giveaway

**Giveaway is now closed**

Today we welcome Mia March and her brand new novel "The Meryl Streep Movie Club", which Kirkus Reviews calls “a heartwarming, spirit-lifting read just in time for beach season.” Mia March lives on the coast of Maine, which is where the story takes place. "The Meryl Streep Movie Club" will be published in over eighteen countries. Mia’s next novel, "Finding Colin Firth," will be published by Simon & Schuster in the summer of 2013. For more info, please visit Mia’s website. You can also friend her on Facebook and follow her on Twitter.

Thanks to Simon & Schuster,we have THREE copies of The Meryl Streep Movie Club to give away to some lucky readers anywhere in the US.

Favorite movie of all time:
Out of Africa. “I had a farm in Africa at the foot of the Ngong Hills.” Can’t you hear Meryl Streep’s opening reverent narration? This film, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1987, is based on the memoirs of Karen Blixen, an astonishing, independent woman who gives her all to her coffee farm, her workers and the people around her. And I don’t think any actor before or since can trump how incredibly gorgeous Robert Redford is in this film.

Favorite chick flick:
Bridget Jones’ Diary. Like the book it’s based on, a masterpiece of fun and truth. “I realize when I met at you the turkey curry buffet that I was unforgivably rude and wearing a reindeer jumper. . . . But the thing is, despite appearances, I like you. Very much. Just as you are.” I’ve rewatched this movie many times just to get to that part with Mark Darcy saying that to Bridget. Happy sigh.

Favorite independent film:
A tie! I can’t choose between them. First is the great Party Girl starring Parker Posey as a library assistant discovering who she really is. I can watch her order baba ganoush from her cart guy forever. Dead on, funny and touching. The other is True Love, starring Annabella Sciorra and Ron Eldard, as a young Bronx couple planning their wedding. Blue mashed potatoes!

Favorite movie musical:
Mamma Mia! Meryl Streep and Colin Firth in one movie? Heaven. I love how much fun everyone is having, including Meryl belting out all those Abba songs, every one of which I adore.

Favorite movie theater snack:
Snowcaps

Favorite actor and actress:
Meryl Streep (goes without saying!) and Colin Firth. Meryl Streep is a gift. Her incredible range, from hilariously funny to heartbreakingly serious, is just astounding. Colin is my heartthrob and has been since I first saw him in the BBC’s Pride & Prejudice as Mr. Darcy. (My next novel, which will be published in the summer of 2013, is "Finding Colin Firth," a spin-off of "The Meryl Streep Movie Club.") LOVE him.

Chick lit novel (aside from your own) that you wish were a movie:
"Tales of a Drama Queen" by Lee Nichols. One of the most hilarious (and yet touching) chick lit novels I’ve ever read. And such a visual read.

Who would you cast in the lead roles, if "The Meryl Streep Club" were made into a movie:
Isabel: Emily Blunt
June: Amy Adams
Kat: Kate Bosworth
Lolly: Susan Sarandon

Hear that, Hollywood?

Special thanks to Mia for inviting us to join her Meryl Streep and Colin Firth clubs and to Simon & Schuster for sharing the book with our readers. Doesn't the popcorn on the cover look yummy?!?

  7. Ah, Robert Redford really was something else in that movie, wasn't he!

I've been watching a lot of Ryan Reynolds and Michele Williams lately, so a movie club for either of them would be right up my alley!

  20. I love Meryl and this book and premise look awesome!! Congrats to the author on the publishing deal. So neat! If I had a movie club it'd probably be Diane Keaton. Actually if I could have Diane, Meryl, and then Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin I'd be a really happy camper. Or actually a writer/director club for Nancy Meyers. That'll work just fine for me! :)

Thanks for the chance to win, and yup, I'm a blog follower here.

  23. I have to agree with her, Meryl Streep and Colin Firth is a pretty great combo! I recently had an Adam Sandler-themed movie marathon with my boyfriend, so I guess Adam Sandler would be my pick! (I must like my boyfriend a LOT, because I sure as hell don't like Adam Sandler movies!) But evidently the concept was so enticing that my sister had an Adam Sandler marathon of her own! Who knew Adam Sandler's movie club potential!? ;)

  33. I would definitely join a Colin Firth movie club and I would also suggest Joseph Gordon-Levitt, he is really a strong actor to watch! If we're going on strictly charm and appeal, maybe Josh Duhamel, he's lovely in When in Rome.
Looking forward to reading this- thanks for the chance to win!
